Teeth Whitening in Charlotte: In-Office vs. At-Home
Updated 2026-11-02 · General information, not medical advice.
Whitening is one of the most requested cosmetic treatments. The right option depends on your budget, timeline and sensitivity.
In-office whitening
Uses a stronger gel applied under supervision, often with a light. Results in about an hour and the most noticeable change, at the highest price.
Custom take-home trays
Your dentist makes trays from impressions and gives you professional gel. You wear them for one to two weeks. Good results, lower cost, and the trays can be reused for touch-ups.
Over-the-counter strips
Cheapest and convenient, but slower and less even. Fine for mild staining.
Things to know
- Whitening doesn't change crowns, veneers or fillings.
- Temporary sensitivity is common; toothpaste for sensitive teeth helps.
- Get a checkup first — whitening over untreated cavities hurts.
